Taking A Stand Against Drug Charges
At Cynthia A. Stewart, P.A., we take a firm stand against drug charges. With over 30 years of experience in criminal defense, attorney Cynthia Stewart aggressively fights drug convictions.
If you face drug charges, you may get confused at the many levels of drug crime categories in Mississippi. Our state’s controlled substance offenses are organized into five categories, with Schedule I being the most severe. Offenses in all five schedules are felonies, with only a couple of exceptions. Meanwhile, the sale of drug paraphernalia for illegal drug use is a misdemeanor.
Quantity And Type
The quantity of drug and its type determines the level of charges. Possession of a small amount of marijuana, less than 30 grams, is a misdemeanor with a relatively small fine compared to an offense with a larger amount of cannabis. A charge involving less than one kilogram of marijuana, heroin or cocaine is a felony that will require payment of at least a 5,000 fine and could get you up to 30 years in prison.
